I have thought hard about what clients want out of their relationship with their lawyer.
I have found that communication is key. Fundamentally, I believe that clients want up to date information about their matter. This means returning telephone calls and email, whenever possible, within 24 hours of receipt. Clients also want to feel that their lawyer and her staff know their situation well. Clients do not want to be treated like just another file.
I believe that these types of expectations are reasonable and take them seriously. My job starts with listening. Each situation is different and requires careful attention and analysis of the facts at hand. In assessing the issues, I aim to make legal sense of what is, more often than not, an overwhelming situation from the clients' point of view. In practice, this means providing my clients with the legal information and guidance to move forward with a sense of comfort and confidence in the face of some of the most complicated and challenging events in their lives.
